Job Summary:
3M Advanced Materials Division is a leader in the design, manufacture, and marketing of a comprehensive line of products for the automotive, aerospace, defense, oil and gas, and general industry markets through the application of specialty engineered materials.
The person hired for the position of Senior Manufacturing Technology Engineer will work with Advanced Materials Division fluoropolymer production operations in Germany and the US to improve current monomer production capability and work with international cross functional teams to establish small scale specialty monomer production to support a wide variety product families.
The employee will have an opportunity to work with 3M and AdMD technologies, such as specialty monomers, fluoropolymers, ceramics, and specialty glass production. The employee will work on a variety of projects with corporate laboratories, manufacturing plants, equipment vendors and materials suppliers.
This position provides an opportunity to transition from other private, public, government or military environments to a 3M career.
Primary Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
Leverage experience with existing 3M technologies and develop new manufacturing processes, as needed, in support of new product development.
Develop, deploy and optimize manufacturing processes to support new product launches.
Lead multi-disciplinary teams through the process development and scale-up commercialization.
Conduct cost-benefit analysis on various manufacturing operations and develop consensus recommendations based upon sound economic analysis
Determine equipment requirements and assist in the development of capital expenditure requests (AFEs) as required for new process development and capacity expansion projects.
Implement PPU across multiple media manufacturing platforms. Ensure quality standards are maintained at outsource manufacturing and component suppliers.
Develop new processes in support of product development and technology platforms. Ensure proper design, build, and qualification of plant and equipment.
Responsibility for project planning and execution, as well as providing project status reports to senior management.
Works directly with product engineering, division quality, manufacturing engineering on project execution and deliverables. Work with equipment vendors and outside operations to develop processes.
Other duties as assigned.
Basic Qualifications:
Possess a Bachelor's degree or higher (completed and verified prior to start) in a science or engineering discipline from an accredited institution
Minimum four (4) years of experience in a private, public, government or military environment in one or more of the following areas: project engineering, process engineering, manufacturing engineering, manufacturing technology, product development, quality, and/or research laboratory.
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree or higher in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, or Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university
Experience in managing projects involving capital expenditures
Process scale-up project experience
Strong organizational skills
Independent, high energy, positive approach
Excellent communication and computer skills
Advanced degree in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, or Materials Science engineering
Experience developing and deploying new manufacturing processes and/or technologies
Ability to work both independently and in cross-functional teams to complete projects
Experience developing and/or commercializing new products
Location: Oakdale, MN
Travel: May include up to 20% domestic / international travel
